Older Guzma

Guzma is a character I really liked from Pokemon Sun and Moon. I'm not too sure why I decided to draw a slightly older version of him, but that's what came to mind. I tested some more different brushes on this painting, this set is one I'm really liking. I have just a few more to test before I pick one to stick with.

Quick Decidueye

I was up late last night and couldn't sleep so I decided to draw. It's not the most detailed drawing or creative background, but it helped pass the time.

Sombra Portrait

After Sombra's reveal for Overwatch it was only natural to do some fan art. However, doing fan art at 2 a.m. is a terrible idea because I couldn't focus and get the details right. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't make her look young. She looks too old and tired.

I'll make sure I'm fully rested next time I draw.

Junkrat Portrait

I had about an hour of spare time and managed to get this done real quick. I hate Junkrat so much, but I love his character design. I realized after I finished that his skin needs to be a bit darker, but times up so this is it.

Tracer Portrait

I've been messing around with more brushes and enjoyed these old ones by a deviantArt user who goes by the name wlop. I'll try them some more before I decide if I'm going to keep them.
So I've been playing Overwatch again and decided more fan art was necessary. I was focusing mostly on the face here, because God knows I still need practice with noses.

Shimazu Toyohisa WIP

I haven't had much time lately to draw or paint so I thought I'd get a quick sketch out with the minutes I had. I started a quick one of Shimazu Toyohisa from the new anime Drifters. The character is really fun to watch, a good mix between bad ass and comedic.

Feature Friday - 09/30/16

Welcome back to Feature Friday, where I select a quality drawing and post it here for everyone to see!

In addition to the main selection, there can also be honorable mentions. The drawings will be posted here on my blog and on my deviantArt!

Now for the feature! The drawing I picked for this weeks feature is by ambergriselement
What impressed me the most about this is the fact that it's done using traditional methods, paper and pencil! From the details around the portrait to the lighting and shading using colored pencils, it's simply fantastic!

The first runner up is innovator123
The drawing is absolutely epic. It's very dynamic and full of life. While it can look a little bit overwhelming at first, once you see the characters, you can really appreciate what's there.

The second runner up is chinchongcha
This picture looks like it could be a movie poster. It has a lot going on, includes many characters, and tells a story. Let's not forget that it also has lots of Final Fantasy characters in it too.

Those are the features for this week, keep your eyes peeled on the forums on Monday for the next feature topic!

WIP - Skull

I started drawing a raptor skull and slowly adding to it so it looks more like a dragon skull. This will be used in the same reaper scene which I've been working on. The usage will be a secret for now. I think it's going to look great when I'm done placing it and adding effects.

WIP - Balcony Columns

I looked at my drawing today and noticed the balcony looked like it was floating, therefore I decided to paint in some columns to hold it up. I didn't go with traditional columns, but rather statues of armored skeletons. I think I'm going to end up recoloring them since the purple is too overpowering.

WIP - A Few Details Added

I managed to get a little bit of time in on this painting. I added some more details to the columns and ceiling area. I think that's about it for this layer and now I'll start with the balcony area. Really liking it so far, the mood is set really well by the color. Soon enough I'll be able to start painting the characters.

Feature Friday - KingKaijuice

Welcome back to Feature Friday, where I feature one of my favorite artists every week.

This week, I'd like to feature Deviant Art user, KingKaijuice, who's art stands out from many others. He helped me with many tips and tricks when it comes to shading and lighting.

The feature art will be a fan art of Asuka from Evangelion. Not a series that I really loved, but the characted I loved a lot. Enjoy the epic skills of the artist!

WIP - Reaper Scene So Far

I continued working on my current painting for a couple of hours today. I'm nearly done with the column layers and will soon move on to either the chandeliers or balcony. I added a floral pattern to some of the empty spots, but I'm not sure how I feel about it just yet. I need to see more of the image completed to see if it goes together.

WIP - Reaper Scene

After completing my previous scene with the Fire Titan, I've begun work on my next painting. This one will deal with a reaper type enemy. Expect to see lots of bones, darkness, and poisonous fog. So far I've started on a bit of the background and not much else. The ideas are slowly coming to me and hopefully the final product will look epic.

Fire Titan

After many hours of work, I've finally completed my latest painting. It took me around 30 hours in total to finish, but it was definitely worth it. I learned how to paint rocks, lava, fire, and clouds during the entire process. I'm pleased with the end product and am ready to move on to my next painting. Hopefully I can finish this one in less time.

Feature Friday - KejaBlank

Welcome to Feature Friday, where I feature one of my favorite artists every week.

To start off, I'd like to feature Deviant Art user, KejaBlank, who has been a huge inspiration to me. She's the one that pushed me to go from cartoon style drawings to more realistic digital paintings. With all of the tips and support, I managed to get my art to its current level.

The picture I'll use today is a digital painting of Obito Uchiha from the Naruto series. The level of detail that went into this is amazing.

Latest Painting - Update

Been a while since I posted so I thought I'd share an update on my latest painting. It's taking me a while to finish due to time constraints and new techniques I'm practicing. Things like fire, lava, and rocks are new to me so it might not look perfect.

Lava Practice

I've started working on a new project that I have yet to fully reveal, but for now here's some practice art for it. I've never tried painting lava before, so this is definitely out of my comfort zone. I'm pretty happy with the results so far, but I think with some tweaks it'll look much better.

The project itself is quite large and will be very time consuming so for now, just enjoy these small practice paintings.

Overwatch - Genji

Here it is! The final product of my Genji painting! I made an attempt at a background after the character was done. Clearly it's an afterthought, but I figured I need to practice backgrounds sometime, so why not now. I'm really happy with the end result of the character, all the practice is really paying off. As for the background, I definitely can improve. I just need to practice some more and hopefully my skills for backgrounds will match that of the characters.

Now I need an idea for my next painting, but I'm not sure what to do.

WIP - Genji without Lines

Finding time to finish drawings is such a major struggle, but I managed to put in another hour. Finished most of his right arm, just need to complete the hand. His short sword is mostly complete, as well as his bandana. I posted the progress picture without the line art to give you an idea of what the finished product will look like. I should have some more time tomorrow, so hopefully I'll be able to move onto the lower portion.

The picture is definitely coming together, especially seeing it without the lines and comparing it to earlier progress pictures.

WIP - Genji So Far

I've managed to put in another couple of hours into this painting and have made some nice progress. Most of the upper body is finished, it'll just need a few more small details. If I continue like this, it should be done in a few days. My pace has picked up while painting which is good, since it used to take me at least 15 hours to finish a painting. Enjoy the work so far!

Genji WIP

I've started on my next painting, which will of course be another Overwatch fan art. This time, I decided to work on Genji, because I love the character design. It reminds me a lot of Raiden from the Metal Gear series. While I suck playing as Genji, hopefully my painting wont. Here's a little preview of my work so far. I'll try to get this done in a reasonable amount of time.

Overwatch - Tracer

Well this one took a while to finish up. Finding the right pose was a mission, but I got it! So continuing on my bandwagon fan art for Overwatch, I present you with Tracer. She is easily the most annoying enemy to fight, especially when it's a highly skilled player. Having her on my team though, that's a godsend.

I'm continuing to develop my digital painting skills, I think this one is the best so far in terms of brush strokes and picture quality. I'm always trying different brush settings and different techniques when it comes to shading and lighting, but I think I'm finally getting closer to a specific way of doing it for myself.

I also want to thank Sakky for the awesome pose references. There's something for everyone there, so check her out.

It's High Noon

I've been playing Overwatch quite a bit lately and have been having a blast. So with that, fan art was necessary. I noticed a high saturation of fanart of the female characters, so I decided to paint one of the dudes. Here's McCree, the gunslinger vigilante!

My painting has been getting better, but still not amazing. Going back to practice some more, I just need to decide what to paint.

I Wanna Be The Very Best...

It's been a while since I had time to draw something. I felt nostalgic when I made this piece. My skills got a bit rusty, but hopefully I can get back into it again. This here is Mewtwo, from the Pokemon series, one of my favorite characters. It's looks intimidating and has the power to match.

Now I'm working on another drawing from another old anime. Hopefully I'll have time to finish it soon.

Until next time!

Second Painting Complete!

Did this for more practice for a guild mate in Guild Wars 2. This is their character known as Myrmie. I'm definitely seeing improvement and progress, but there's always more to learn. Hopefully I can keep getting better with each piece!

Blowing Kiss

I did this as an entry for the Valentine's Day community showcase for Guild Wars 2. It's a painting of my human necromancer and it's been a learning process all the way through. I've never tried fully painting digitally, but I've always been interested. This has been a huge leap versus my normal art style, and I feel I've finally broken out of my barrier.
Huge thanks to KejaBlank and KingKaijuice on DeviantArt for teaching me so much about choosing colors and what they mean. I've learned a lot about shading and what colors to pick as well as lighting. I've learned about different brush strokes and techniques. I've learned of the effectiveness of a background no matter how simple it is. There's so much I've been taught and thanks to them tutoring and guiding me, I've managed to complete this. I'll continue practicing and hope to get better.

Pokemon Gijinka - Tyranitar

Someone asked me recently if I was interested in drawing gijinkas and I had no idea what that was. After looking it up, I found that a gijinka is the humanization or personification of an animal. Generally it's drawn as fan art of characters from anime or video games.

So after having learned this, I decided I would try to draw a gijinka of my favorite monsters, Pokemon! Here's my try at a Tyranitar gijinka.

Asha Kali Drawing

Here's a piece I did as a request for a user on DeviantArt. She's an assassin named Asha Kali who works for a mysterious syndicate called Children of Indra. She's the best at what she does and her signature is to leave a marking on her victims tongue. She also wears purple :3

This was made in Krita just like my last post. I'm getting better with it and it's getting easier to use. It really is just a problem at first when changing the settings and brushes to your preferences.

First Drawing Using Krita

I heard of Krita from an indie game developer blog and decided to try it out. I find it looks similar to Photoshop, but it has some very unique features. It can be a bit of a hassle to set up and rearrange the layout how you like, as well as setting up brushes. But after everything is ready to go, you unleash your creative mind while also being very efficient. This here is my first finished drawing using the program and I must say, it's slowly working its way to being my favorite.
